Tashkent, June 15, 2022 – The Uzbekistan GTL complex (UzGTL) in the Qashqadaryo Region is pleased to announce the production of synthetic diesel products, the first of a series of end products from its advanced gas-to-liquids process.

Diesel fuel production marks an historic step in the development of the nation’s petrochemical industry. The GTL plant was built on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and symbolises a further advance in the nation’s reindustrialization and modernization efforts.

Uzbekistan GTL CEO, Fakhritdin Abdurasulov, said:

“This event demonstrates the progress we are making in support of the country’s economic development and is a symbol of the new path Uzbekistan is taking towards a more sustainable, prosperous, and environmentally friendly future.”

Mr. Abdurasulov noted that the main commissioning works of the plant, including ensuring the synchronous operation of about 11,000 pieces of equipment and main production units, as well as their full control and management, are being independently carried out by Uzbekistan citizens, including domestic engineers, young specialists and other workers.

Based on pre-existing agreements, the first 5,000 tons of synthetic diesel fuel will be supplied to the Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Complex.

When fully operational, the plant will supply 3.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas and will produce 1.5 million tons of finished liquid products, including 307,000 tons of jet fuel, 724,000 tons of diesel fuel, 437,000 tons of naphtha, and 53,000 tons of liquefied gas. The plant will also supply synthetic naphtha to the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex, which will be expanded in the near future. The creation of a local petrochemical cluster will make it possible to produce an additional line of products and organise waste-free production with maximum local processing.

The US$3.4-billion UzGTL complex was officially opened by President Mirziyoyev in December 2021.
